Pay Equity Pledge Launched yesterday at IWD Event

A moving event attended by about 40 people was held at Parliament Grounds yesterday organized by the Pay Equity Coalition commemorating International  Women’s Day.

The gathering at the Sonja Davies Memorial plaque acknowledged Sonja’s inspiration, the impact of the CHCH earthquake and the effect on women and their families,  recognized IWD – its history and relevance today, and launched the Pay Equity Pledge on the steps of Parliament.

$300 was donated by participants  at the event to the Women’s Refuge Christchurch Earthquake appeal. This has been given to Heather Henare – National Co-ordinator of the Women’s Refuge who was grateful of our support.

Seventy women leaders have signed the pay equity pledge. The signatures of 30 more women are needed to make  the 100 women leaders pledging for pay equity  on the 110th anniversary of IWD. Please contact us if you know of women leaders who will sign up.

Thanks to all who came, those who spoke, those that made music and those who sang.

Kia Kaha – from all the Members of the Pay Equity Coalition Steering Group.
