Why Change?

BPW International is passionate about the wave of enthusiasm that currently exists around women and their contribution to society and economies – both current and untapped. In many countries the business case is already fully understood and in others the connection between a healthy society and the economic empowerment of women is now being seen. In this context, BPW International is calling the 21st century the Women’s Century – the time for change is now.

Why Change? will be a report based on this survey, on what needs to change to address the behaviours, attitudes and cultural barriers affecting women’s participation in the society and the economy. The report will be a compilation of regional responses to within a global context.

The resultant report will be available to:

  • The general public as it will be freely available on the BPW International website
  • Relevant governments for policy guidance. BPW International will distribute the information to those governments implicated in the responses
  • The UN Secretary General’s High-level Panel of Eminent Persons in BPW International’s role as a contributor to the Post-2015 Development Agenda on the issue of gender equality and the economic empowerment of women.

The survey should not take more than 10 minutes. The format is open so that we can really hear what you think and understand your experience. However, the responses are limited to 200 words. While the content will remain anonymous, there is one optional question where we ask for an example or story about your experience. While the contributor’s identity will remain anonymous the content may be published within the report.

The survey will close on 24 April 2014.
