OAS Begins First Edition of OAS Fellowship on Open Government in the Americas

The Organization of American States (OAS) began the first edition of its OAS Fellowship on Open Government in the Americas, with a meeting that brought together 24 young leaders from 16 countries of the Americas in the U.S. cities of Osprey Point, Maryland and Washington, DC, to debate ideas, exchange experiences and work on projects designed to increase governmental transparency, participation and citizen collaboration.

OAS Hosts Roundtable on Innovation for the Advance of Democracy and Citizen Participation

The Organization of American States (OAS) hosted its 66th Policy Roundtable, on the issue “Innovating for Democracy: Citizen Participation in the Digital Era,” at its headquarters in Washington DC.

Secretary General Participates in Closing of 154th Period of Sessions of the IACHR

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, highlighted “the enormous dedication of the members of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR),” in his speech to the closing ceremony of the 154th Period of Sessions of the Commission.

“Building Envionments of Peace”: XXI Pan-American Child and Adolescent Congress

Brasilia, Brazil, hosted the XXI Pan-American Congress, held from 10 to 12 December 2014, achieving the objective of promoting the exchange of experiences and knowledge as well as recommendations and consensus that promote the welfare of children and adolescents in the Americas.

MULTIDIMENSIONAL SECURITY

OAS Secretary General Reiterates Importance of the Inter-American Defense Board as a Hemispheric Cooperation Body for Security Issues

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, participated in a ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of the creation of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB), during which he received a distinction in recognition “of his support, management and valuable services performed over the last decade for the development and integration of the IADB with the OAS.” 

INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT

Permanent Executive Committee of CITEL Selected Three Candidates for Executive Secretary

The Permanent Executive Committee of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) chose in their meeting in Washington, DC candidates for the post of Executive Secretary of the Commission.
